What is Inven MCP?

Inven MCP lets Claude and ChatGPT query live Inven data on 28M+ companies. It fits an existing stack. Native work does not require MCP.

Last updated August 2026.

Inven MCP is the Model Context Protocol connection that lets Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor query live Inven data on 28M+ companies. It fits the AI stack a team already uses. It does not replace Inven. Native work in Inven does not require MCP or Claude.

Definition. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to live data sources. Inven MCP is that connection for Inven's private-market company data. It is not a replacement for native Inven work, and it is not Skills.

Author. Taru Hakkarainen wrote this MCP introduction for Inven. Named quote is Kaden Bowker, Associate at Eight Quarter Advisors, already on this page. Last product-data check: August 2026.

What is Inven MCP?

Inven MCP is the pipe that lets Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor query live Inven data on 28M+ companies (Inven product data, August 2026). Skills sit on that pipe in Claude and are optional. The differentiator is data structure, not the connection itself.

M&A advisors, private equity teams, and strategy consultants spend a lot of time moving lists between tools: export, reformat, paste, repeat. Inven MCP is for teams that already work in Claude or ChatGPT and want live Inven data in that conversation, without replacing Inven or the rest of the stack.

What does Inven MCP actually do?

Once connected, your AI tool can read saved lists, search Inven's 28M+ companies, pull company data, and combine it with other connected sources in one conversation. Skills can sit on top of that pipe in Claude. They are optional.

MCP is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to live data sources and external tools. You are not uploading exports or copy-pasting data. The assistant queries Inven directly and writes against that data: a competitive landscape, a set of one-pagers, or outreach drafts.

PathWhere it runsWhen to choose
Native Inven WorkflowsInven. One-pagers, buyer lists, market maps. Build it once, run it across the firmWhen the team wants the work inside Inven. No MCP or Claude required
Inven MCPClaude, ChatGPT, Cursor query live Inven dataWhen the team already works in those tools and wants Inven data there
Inven SkillsClaude Cowork / Claude Code, on top of MCP or the pluginWhen recurring format in Claude matters. Optional

The connection is the pipe. What Claude can interpret is the data structure. Dustin Engel, Co-founder, Elegant Disruption: "I've worked with other MCPs where the data structure wasn't as good. You had to train the AI in the instructions just to tell it what to look for. With Inven, the AI can interpret the data set on its own."

Engel again: "Data breadth, depth, and specifically data structure — those are the things that make Inven unimpeachable by the LLMs."

"If you work in M&A and are building AI into your workflow, Inven is worth a look. Of everything I've tested, it integrates best with tools like Claude. Our research is faster as a result, and more importantly, better."
Kaden Bowker, Associate at Eight Quarter Advisors

How are deal teams using Inven MCP?

Deal teams use it for market analysis, meeting briefs, target benchmarking, written materials, personalized outreach, and multi-step workflows that chain Inven with tools they already run. Each job below queries live Inven data inside Claude or ChatGPT.

  • Complex market analysis: Sector overviews, M&A activity, funding signals, and growth drivers, built in minutes rather than days.
  • Meeting prep and company briefs: Walk into a client or target meeting briefed, without spending the morning on research.
  • Target benchmarking: Compare companies across your Inven lists on headcount, revenues, ownership, and operational metrics.
  • Written materials: One-pagers, strip profiles, and a competitive landscape from Inven data.
  • Personalized outreach at scale: Go from a saved target list to individually tailored emails using Inven data, drafted by AI, sent via your CRM.
  • End-to-end AI workflows: Chain Inven with other connected tools (email providers, spreadsheets) for multi-step deal work.

Example prompts

→ "Do a market analysis of the European warehouse automation sector: key players, funding activity, recent M&A, and growth signals."

→ "Build strip profiles for the companies in my Inven list 'Nordic Industrials' and a presentation-ready competitive landscape."

→ "I'm an M&A advisor meeting with [Company]'s CFO tomorrow. Give me a one-page brief."

→ "Draft personalized outreach emails for every company in my Inven list and pull decision-maker contact info."

→ "Compare headcount across Engineering and R&D for these 5 targets and benchmark them."

How does MCP fit into an existing stack?

Inven MCP sits next to the AI tools, CRM, and lists a team already uses. It does not replace Inven, Claude, ChatGPT, or HubSpot. Usual chain: build or save the list in Inven, analyze in Claude, produce a one-pager or landscape a partner can defend, draft outreach, send via the CRM you already have.

Pull target list from Inven → Analyze in Claude → Produce the output → Draft outreach → Send via HubSpot

No exports. No reformatting. No context lost between steps. Work that used to take a full day of analyst time can happen in a single conversation, with your own Inven data, your own saved lists, and the AI tools your team already uses.

How do you get started with Inven MCP?

Connect Inven to Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor if the team already works there. Skip MCP if the team already works in Inven. Book a demo with your own market or mandate either way. 28M+ companies sit behind the answer. Claude is optional.

Not using Inven yet? Book a demo and bring your own market or mandate. We'll show you what Inven can find and analyze in minutes.

1,000+ M&A teams use Inven to map markets, find the companies others miss, and produce outputs a partner can defend across 28M+ companies.
